The one thing we don't do is open a device up for hardware repair; when the trouble turns out to be a broken part, we'll tell you plainly and point you to a good hardware shop.

Can I just book one visit?
Yes, and you never have to join. One-time visits are always available at the regular rates. The membership makes sense if you need help a few times a year: the included visits pay for most of the dues by themselves, 20% off takes care of the rest when you book extra, and you've got someone to text with a quick question.
Who comes to the house?
A Local Nerd we've interviewed ourselves and who has passed a background check from an independent screening company, paid for by us, before their first job. They give their details straight to that company, never to us. Each one also signs an agreement on how they conduct themselves in your home, how they treat your information, and what they will and won't work on.
What does it cost?
Remote help is $39 for the first 30 minutes. A house call is billed by the hour, set by the city that serves you and how far you are from its downtown: from $110 within 25 miles, more from 25 to 50 miles and from 50 to 75, with no separate travel fee. Your ZIP shows your rate before you book. Past the first block, you're charged by the half hour at that same rate. You pay $39 online to book, and the rest when your Local Nerd is done.
